eCommerce Web Design
Ecommerce Web Design Is Twice As Important
Ensuring that your website has a solid design is an important part of having a website. You can't just cobble together a semi-functional site that looks terrible. Even if your site looks nice, it may not be good enough because it's not functional at all. That's simply a fact of the internet.
However, when you're designing a website for the purposes of eCommerce, proper web design becomes twice as important as ever. There are a number of reasons for this, some of which are obvious, some of which are not. It's also not always obvious what "good web design" means.
For example. All websites need to be easy to navigate. That's an obvious thing, and it's true of eCommerce websites, as well. But with eCommerce websites, it's important not just that it's easy to navigate, but that you also make sure each and every page can allow a person to make a sale. If you design your website in such a way as to force your customer to go through several different menu options before they can buy your product, their interest may cool down enough that they reconsider. It's not that they don't want your product. It's that you have to build a sense of emergency and get them to buy immediately, or they may simply start thinking of all the reasons they shouldn't buy it.
With normal web design, you want your site to look nice. You want it to be aesthetically pleasing. This is true of eCommerce web design, as well. With eCommerce web design, you want the site to be more than nice looking. You want every aspect of the site to promote the product. You want to do it in such a way that it doesn't become too jarring. If you simply plaster pictures of your product all over the site, that might be too over bearing. Instead, you want to draw subtly the customer's eye to the product, and get them thinking about it no matter what part of the site they're on.
Ultimately, eCommerce web design is a thing that requires a great deal of skill and talent. You don't want to cobble together a site, even a functional site, without considering all the marketing aspects. Doing so is a quick way to ensure your web sales go down the tubes. So hire a professional, you'll be glad you did.
